The city council of Calgary voted 14-0 to accept the recommendations of the Council’s Financial Review Committee at Monday’s meeting, which means their salaries will be suspended in 2021.
The group, which includes HR professional volunteers, has been independently reviewing council compensation last year.
The CCRC presented its final report to the council, saying it had the basis for the current Calgary economy and the needs of the project in its recommendations. Councilors have not received a salary increase for the past four years, according to the committee.
Recommendations also include that council members are provided with Worker’s Compensation Benefits services, the additional pension scheme is terminated and the grant money changes.
