LAHORE: Funeral prayers for Begum Shamim Akhtar, mother of former prime minister Nakaz Sharif and President of the PML-Shehbaz Sharif, are in Lahore today (Saturday).
Funeral services are expected to be held at Sharif Medical City, Raiwind at 1:30 p.m. He will be buried at Jati Umrah.
Late Begum Akhtar’s body was sent to Pakistan from London on a British Airways flight BA-059.
Geo News reported on Saturday morning that his body had arrived in Lahore and was handed over to his son, Shebbaz, who was at Lahore airport with his son Hamza Shahbaz to receive the body.
PML-N spokeswoman Marriyum Aurangzeb and Attaullah Tarar of PML-N were also present at Allama Iqbal Airport.
Most of the PML-N crew entered the airport as a London plane carrying Begum Akhtar’s body arrived in Lahore.
PML-N superintendent Nawaz Sharif conducted his mother’s funeral services in London on Friday with several family members and the group.
The prayers were held at the London Central Mosque – also known as the Regent’s Park Mosque – where the number of participants was to be limited to 30 under the United Kingdom’s coronavirus guidelines.
