Those who follow the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset may know that the company launches its Snapdragon 8xx series processors every year, followed by a version of ‘Plus’ designed a few months later. Last year we saw Snapdragon 865 and 865+ coming later in the year. Before that, it was a Snapdragon 855 and 855+. Recently, Qualcomm unveiled its Snapdragon 888 processor, which we will see on most of the leading smartphones in 2021. However, the new report now talks about the Snapdragon 888+ model, which may be launched later this year.
According to a tipster Digital Chat Station post at Weibo, Qualcomm could launch a Snapdragon 888+ processor in the second half of this year. Unfortunately, nothing more is known about the chipset. However, it has been reported that a US-based chipmaker has a GPU frequency of Snapdragon 888 installed at 840MHz. Therefore, OEMs will not be able to override their devices. This also means that the rumored Snapdragon 888+ may come with a little improvement over the Snapdragon 888.
It could be the same ss case of Snapdragon 865. For those who don’t know, Snapdragon 865+ is said to improve performance by 10% more than Snapdragon 865. The GPU, which is Adreno 650, is said to be 10% faster than it is in -Snapdragon 865 original.
Currently, the Xiaomi Mi 11 is the only smartphone that comes with a Snapdragon 888. processor. We look forward to seeing Samsung Galaxy S21 models coming with the Snapdragon 888 in the US and other selected regions.
