UAE NEWS: Meet the expat nurse who handled the Covid-19 vaccine at Sheikh Mohammed

‘People say they never felt any pain while I was dating’.

For Sossamma Mathew, a Dubai-based Indian nurse, it was a time of ‘dream come true’ when she finally got the chance to meet with the Honorable Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Governor of Dubai, and presented him with a Covid-19 vaccine.

“I have always wanted to meet Sheikh Mohammed. And God granted my request. It was a blessed time. I cannot express my feelings. I am very lucky, ”said the bright Sossamma, who hails from the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Sossamma was part of a four-member medical team, which went to Sheikh Mohammed’s Majlis.

“We visited the area after a Covid-19 negative test. Sheikh Mohammed asked us about our well-being. He commended the excellent work done by leading health professionals. ”

Sheikh Mohammed later posted on Twitter a picture in which Sossamma appeared to give him the knife.

His jaws do not hurt

He was very happy to meet Sheikh Mohammed, but he was not unduly fearful as he was a veteran campaigner in handling jabs from famous people in the UAE.

In September, Sossamma gave the first vaccine dose to AbdulRahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, the Minister of Health and Defense. You are being taken from this job for a simple reason: the injections it injects are completely harmless.

“People said they never felt pain when I injected it. Therefore, I have always been selected to administer flu and vaccines for ministers, heads of government departments, secretaries and VIPs. ”

Sossamma has been in Dubai since 1992. She works as a nurse working in the defense medicine department under the Department of Health and Safety.

He has now become a form of fame for his family and friends in the UAE and is returning to the village of Meenadom in the Kottayam region. Sossamma said her husband Vaidyanparambil Abraham Kuriakose and her son Jubin – who work in Dubai – were proud of her.

“People now know that the person in the mask is me. My family is very happy. I am blessed to have such opportunities. I regard this as a rare privilege for an Indian and Malayalam person. ”

Sossamma is looking forward to giving a second dose to Sheikh Mohammed.

He also wishes to present a vaccine to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.

“I hope to give VIP volume to Burj Khalifa. I have never been to that place, ”said Sossamma.
