The emirate also recorded the best number of daily accidents on September 2.
As the new school year begins, Sharjah recorded 3,230 minor accidents everywhere from August 29 to September 9.
The emirate also recorded 317 accidents on September 2 – the best number to this point during a single day.
In contrast, the daily average at the start of the year was 213, consistent with a report by the Joint Surveying Committee for Minor Traffic Accurs in Sharjah, developed by Sharjah Police General Command together with Rafid Automotive Solutions.
About 60 percent of accidents are caused by failure to keep up adequate distances between vehicles, with most occurring between 12pm and 6pm.
Abdelrahman Alshamsi, accident manager and RSA manager at Rafid Automotive Solutions, said a rise within the number of road accidents was expected because the back-to-school season had plenty of movement of cars and buses on the road.
That, together with drivers rushing to their destination, has caused some hold up to and from schools.
“On September 2, 317 minor road accidents were recorded, the most important number of accidents recorded to this point in at some point in 2021,” Alshamsi said. “Drivers must listen to the present number, and that they must follow and accommodates traffic rules to take care of the protection of all road users.”
