DUBLIN – The Irish prime minister said on Saturday he thought Britain and the European Union would strike over a post-Brexit trade agreement and that the resumption of talks this week was a good sign despite the remaining challenges.
Both parties have made good progress in recent negotiations with a last-minute trade agreement that will prevent a controversial conclusion to the five-year-old Brexit disaster, but the fish is still a major source of support.
“My gut is that the (British) prime minister wants a deal,” Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin told an online conference.
