LONDON – Britain recorded the highest number of people with daily COVID-19 infections on Thursday at 6 634, according to government data, showing the second wave of the virus striking the country.
Thursday’s number had risen from 6,178 on Wednesday.
Although it is the highest daily number of cases on record – more than the number of the first viral wave at the beginning of the year – it shows the largest test regime.
In April and May when the number of cases increased dramatically, Britain did not have the resources to test all those infected. Even now, the testing program is under pressure.
Public Health England said there were already 40 young people, an increase of 37 yesterday. At the height of the epidemic, Britain reported more than 1,000 deaths a day.
